I'm a bit late coming into this thread ^.^;

I notice people saying "this is unlike Barriss" and things like that.

Sometimes, war changes people. It sometimes makes a hero out of the least heroic, but it also can warp and twist those whom would be considered "good" as well.

The Clone Wars lasts roughly 3 years, correct? Over the course of that, it appears Barriss started to have doubts about the role of the Jedi. As things continued to deteriorate and the Jedi found themselves doing very unJedi-like things, those doubts became convictions, and radicalized. Why would she betray Ashoka? Because she saw Ashoka as part of the problem. Ashoka's Master was widely known to be fast and loose with the rules of the Jedi, and Ashoka sometimes followed his lead. A radicalized Barriss would certainly notice these things, and her zealotry eventually pushed Ashoka out of the picture. Her cause became greater than friendship.

Could it have been done 'cleaner?' Yes - but the problem with a TV show is time limits. Any novelization will probably flesh out Barriss' descent. It as probably something that happened over time, and was gradual enough that those around her (Ashoka, Luminara) didn't notice due to the focus on the war effort.
